Manchester City captain Fernandinho has signed a new one-year contract. The Brazilian, 36, joined City from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013 and has gone on to win four Premier League titles and six EFL Cups at Etihad Stadium. Gareth Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, has said the player has “no option” to go back to Tottenham. According to him, Bale will honour the final 12 months of his contract with Real Madrid. The 31-year-old winger returned to North London on a season-long loan during the summer transfer window of 2020. There has been talk of another agreement being put in place, but Barnett insists there is no chance of that happening. Patrick Vieira has agreed to become the new Crystal Palace manager. Nothing has been signed yet, with Vieira the third manager in three weeks where terms have been agreed, but Palace now expect this deal to go through. The board had hoped Lucien Favre would change his mind over the weekend, with the ex-Borussia Dortmund boss opting not to take charge in a late U-turn last week, but moved focus to Vieira shortly after. Neville said that the match was a mess for France, adding that they were complacent. The Federal Government has given further reasons the United Arab Emirates (UAE) banned flights from Nigeria to Dubai. The Minister of aviation, Hadi Sirika made this on Monday while briefing the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 in Abuja. Sirika accused the UAE of discriminatory protocols, adding that Emirates and other airlines, including KLM, gave conditions unacceptable to Nigeria. He explained that UAE insisted that Nigerians intending to visit its country must use Emirates or spend two weeks in the alternative carrier’s country before entering Dubai. Governor Samuel Ortom says Benue State will reject the planned review of the Land Use Act by the Federal Government with vehemence as it is meant to grab land for open grazing, cattle routes and grazing reserves. Ortom spoke on Monday while reacting to allegations of planned review of the Land Use Act of 1978 to give ownership of land to the Federal Government and to push for take over of waterways and River Banks by the Federal Government. Minister of state for education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba has revealed that Katsina has the second highest number of out-of-school children in Nigeria. He revealed this on Monday in Katsina during the inauguration of the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA), a World Bank-assisted project. The minster stated that poor standards of education could affect the country’s ability to compete in the 21st century global economy. The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, made the disclosure to journalists on Tuesday, saying Kanu was arrested and brought to Nigeria on Sunday. He said the arrest followed a collaborative effort between security agencies in Nigeria and the Interpol. Malami further disclosed that Kanu would be taken before the Federal High Court in Abuja for continuation of his trial on charges bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony, unlawful possession of firearms and management of an unlawful society. Dr. Harun Ibn-Sina, the Commander General of Hisbah disclosed this in a statement through Mr. Lawal Ibrahim, Public Relations Officer of the board in Kano. ”The suspects were apprehended between June 27 and June 28 at about 10 pm and midnight during a special raid in Bbur-burwa, Albasu Local Government Area, gathering commercial sex workers, sexual misconduct including the sale of condoms and marijuana. “Some suspects were also arrested around the railway, Ja’en, Zoo Road, among others,” he said on Tuesday, June 29. Convener of Revolution Now, Omoyele Sowore, has called for the release of Biafra agitator, Nnamdi Kanu. Sowore, in a Facebook post, asserted that Kanu had done nothing to cause his arrest. “FreeKanu now! Asking for self determination is not a crime!”, he wrote. The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS). This followed his arraignment on Tuesday before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja. The judge adjourned until July 26 for continuation of trial. Deji Adeyanju, a popular human rights activist, has disclosed that some members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, are considering fielding former President Goodluck Jonathan as their 2023 presidential candidate.
